Beach Sprints at Duneen beach Co.Cork
Successful weekend at beach sprint qualifiers for Donegal rowers. 3 clubs from Donegal – Kincasslagh RC, DBRC and ourselves headed to cork for the weekend to compete in the Beach sprints to qualify for the Homes International Beach Sprints, the World Rowing Beach Sprints and European Beach Sprints Championships. 9 crews from our club competed in the event. This was the first time for our club to compete at beach sprints. All our crews done extremely well with Michael O’Boyle qualifying for the European Beach Sprints Championships in the CJM1x (junior men single) and Cian Sweeney qualifying in a CMix4+ (mixed quad) with a composite crew made up from Kincasslagh RC, Commercial RC and Ring RC with Cian steering them to glory. Cian also ranked 4th in the CM1x (men’s single) just missing out on a qualifying spot. Eva Shovlin and Brendan Shaw also qualified in the CJMix2 (junior mixed double) for the European Beach Sprints but will not be attending this year. Our junior girls ranked 3rd,4th and 5th in the CWJ1x (junior woman’s single), the girls also ranked 4th and 5th in the CWJ2x (junior woman’s double), a fantastic achievement for all these young rowers having only 2 practice sessions in Portnoo beforehand. We would like to send a huge congratulations to DBRC junior ladies on an outstanding performance qualifying for the Homes and the Worlds.
More exciting news, Caitlin Ward has been selected to represent Queen’s University on the 21st May at the Belfast Regatta in ladies single. Congratulations caitlin well deserved
