Loughros Point Rowing club are no strangers to elite sports, with our young rowers making great strides in national competitions. Recently one of our members headed off to Belfast to study at Queens University. But she made sure to bring her oars with her. No slouch with the studies Caitlin Ward, currently studying Applied Maths and Physics, is also a powerhouse on the water and has managed to get hooked up with the Queens University Belfast Ladies Boat Club. We at the club wish Caitlin all the success in the world both with her studies and on the water.
In Caitlin’s own words
I started rowing when I was 16 because I wanted to try a new sport. I started in traditional skiff boats before moving into offshore boats and eventually river boats. The coaches at Loughros Point offered me encouragement and constant motivation and pushed me to a standard I never thought possible. I’ve recently had the opportunity to join Queens University Belfast Ladies Boat Club where I’m currently training with some of the best rowers in Ireland. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from everyone at Loughros Point, especially Shaun Molloy. The countless hours he puts into the club and the athletes definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.
